The School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology at Tianjin University started its operations in July 2000, and was officially founded in April 2001. Within a few years, a group of overseas scholars with strong academic background joined us as faculty members. We have adopted the most advanced methods of higher education from home and abroad, such as bilingual teaching and problem-based learning, giving our students the opportunity to start research work in our laboratories at an early stage. Our aim is to prepare our students to fill the needs and face the challenges of the future world. We are well equipped with advanced research facilities, and conduct high-level research projects in the areas of medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, natural medicinal products, pharmaceutics and molecular biochemistry.

Currently, the school has about thirty faculty members, among whom twelve professors, fourteen associate professors, one academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, two Yangtze Scholars, and eleven distinguished fellows. It is a dynamic teaching and research team, as over 93% of the faculty members hold doctoral degrees.

The school is organized into six departments: medicinal chemistry, natural products and traditional Chinese medicine, molecular and cellular pharmacology, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutical formulation, and computer-aided drug design & bioinformatics.

We offer a Bachelor's Degree of Science in pharmaceutical sciences, as well as Master's Degrees of Science in medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical formulation, microbiological & biochemical pharmaceutics, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical regulation & administration. We also have PhD programs in applied chemistry and in pharmaceutical regulatory sciences. Postdoctoral fellowships are available in all those areas.

As of December 2008, the school enrollment was 453 undergraduate students, 415 graduate students, 161 doctoral students and 11 post-doctoral researchers.

The four class of 227 students earned their BS degree before July 2008. Among them, 50 students went abroad to further their studies at institutions such as Columbia University , the University of Minnesota , etc. 58 students passed the national entrance examination for graduate studies, 32 students were admitted to graduate programs directly upon recommendation of our school, and other students found satisfactory positions in various companies.

Our school made great strides in the last ten years. The funding for research reaches more than ten million, while we conduct about twenty programs at the national level and in Tianjin city. We produced more than ninety scientific publications, were granted twenty patents and earned four scientific research awards.
